www.invisiblechildren.com

There is a very informative movie you can get on the site about this group of children in Uganda. The war there forced these children to traverse great distances on their own, braving the dangers of the harsh African wilderness on their own. The Bracelet Campaign is especially noteworthy, because not only does the money spent on the bracelets go to the Ugandan people, but these same people are employed because of the project, and they earn the money themselves.

Free Rice

www.freerice.com

Free Rice is about as painless as is gets when it comes to charity. You are given a word and a list of four possible synonyms. If you pick the right definition, the sponsors donate 20 grains of rice to the UN World Bank. This site promotes education and battles starvation at the same time. You have nothing to lose, so go for it!

After alotting as little as $25 to your account on the site, you can browse a list of people who are in need of a loan to help get a business up and running. The great thing about this is that it allows each person to earn their own money, and after they are successful enough to earn your money back, the return it to you, and you can donate it to a new needy entrepeneur. The system helps people helps themselves along with striking up the intimacy that is integral to true charity.

Central Asia Institute

www.ikat.org

As mentioned elsewhere on the site, this is the organization run by Greg Mortenson that is discussed in the book Three Cups of Tea. This group works tirelessly under amazing leadership to give poor citizens of Pakistan and Afghanistan the most important tool for leading successful lives: education. Their work is inspiring and their cause is undeniably vital to the progress of the world's welfare.
